We got up super early on May Day morning to drive to Rodborough Common, Stroud for 5am to witness a very special occasion; Boss Morris greeting the morning Beltane sun.
Along with Boss Morris, Miserden Morris also performed. I was particularly drawn to their totemic Miserden Boar, created by Alex Merry. We were invited to adorn their Jacky In The Green, and take part in singing ‘Hal An Tow’.
After May Day celebrations it was back to the fabulous Prince Albert for early morning breakfast and coffee before driving home, absolutely pumped by the mornings festivities!
We first met Boss Morris in 2022 and have been lucky enough to see them dance their wonderful Morris a few times now. Founded in 2015, they are a group of female creatives supported by professional musicians who share an artistic and progressive vision of Morris dancing as a means to increase social engagement and interest in this unique and ancient folk dance.
